All across the Royal Borough, the news of Queen Elizabeth’s passing has generated an outpouring of grief and sadness, the likes of which many generations have never experienced...or will likely ever witness again.
In Windsor especially, the sombre tone is particularly palpable, and this is echoed in nearby Maidenhead, where many of the residents who regarded the Queen as ‘a neighbour’, will be finding the effects of this transition period especially visceral.
During the period of national mourning that will inevitably define the weeks to come, there will be much interest in what to expect as the nation comes to terms with the loss of our last great monarch, and what it means for the future of the Borough, and indeed the Country.
In line with both private and public sentiment, Braxton – like many local businesses – are using this time as both a period of quiet reflection, and to be a source of information and continuity for our clients and local residents in the days and weeks to come.
From this regard, we would like to take this opportunity to share with you the details of the ceremonial itinerary, which is currently as follows:
Later this week
Approximately four days before the funeral on Monday 19th September, the Queen’s coffin will be moved from Buckingham Palace in a slow public procession to Westminster Hall, where it shall lie in state, allowing members of the public to visit and pay their respects.
The Funeral:
The state funeral will be held on 19th September at Westminster Abbey, and this has been dedicated an official day of mourning. Big Ben will chime at 9am on the day (its hammer officially muffled by a piece of leather) with the coffin arriving at 11am.
Following the service, a private committal service will take place in the chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle.
Sharing condolences
Floral tributes can be laid outside the Cambridge Gate at the top of the Long Walk, although it is requested that flowers are free from plastic packaging. Flowers are brought inside and placed on the Castle Chapter grass every evening. There is an online book of condolences where well-wishers can leave their messages, a selection of which will be passed onto members of the Royal Family.
In summary
We at Braxton would like to extend our sincerest gratitude for Her Majesty's seventy years of unwavering and steadfast service, and to join the nation in extending the most heart-felt condolences to the Royal Family, at this extremely difficult and saddening time.
